Meet Jeanette.  She was my next door neighbor for 16 years and was like a second “grandmother” to my girls.  Although we no longer live right next door, Jeanette is still “just around the corner” – a few blocks away … and she remains a great friend.  Jeanette is 80 years young!  Wow, look at her today!

Below is Jeanette’s story for what has kept her healthy all these years – but if I had to put in “my two cents” I would tell you one thing for sure – Jeanette is ACTIVE, ACTIVE, ACTIVE!!!  She walks the beach, is a wonderful painter, travels with Ed (her husband), on several cruises a year, plays the guitar, sings, bowls, gardens and much, much more!

Below are a few snapshots Jeanette took of Atlantis on one of her many cruises with Ed.

Jeanette shares:

“Daily, I begin my day reading my Bible and praying with Ed.  I eat breakfast and walk a couple of miles.  As far as exercise, we walk the beach and I also love to ballroom and swing dance.   I also garden which, in the Florida climate, is often lots and lots of exercise!”

Below is a picture of one of the pretty Florida sunrises Jeanette took while strolling the beach:

“I have in the past lived an unhealthy lifestyle.  I smoked for about 15 years but finally quit in the 1970’s.  I still tend to eat foods I shouldn’t and admit I love carbs and sugar, but they hate me!  I go back to Weight Watchers about every 10 years and lose 10 to 15 pounds.  I love fruits and veggies, fish and steak on the grill, also.

My husband, Ed, is a terrific cook, so we cook together sometimes.  I make the salad and rice, and Ed cooks the potatoes and meat.  I’ve discovered that if I omit fruit and veggies for just one day,  and eat fat, sugar and starches, I start getting depressed!”

“I feel pretty good these days.  I am 80 years old now and have a pain here and there.  But I’ve noticed whatever it is, God made our bodies to heal themselves.

Sometimes when I get stressed, if I dwell on it, I’ve learned to go directly to my prayer place (my bedside) and give it to Jesus!  He said, “Cast your cares on me.”  So I do!

I have lots of dear friends, and I bowl on a league and play Bunco once a month.  I also play with my grandkids – all ages.  I like to paint, sew, sing and play my guitar, read and garden.  So there is plenty to do!”

Below are just a few snapshots of some of Jeanette’s paintings (I am proud to say we have many of Jeanette’s “beachy paintings” in our home).

And may I add, I hope I look half this good when I am her age… and I hope to be at least half as active!  As you can tell from the above, Jeanette lives a very fruitful, active, and meaningful life!

Jeanette is a beautiful example and living inspiration to anyone at any age or any state of life.  If you need a little motivation, just glance through the pictures again – and start living!  Thanks, Jeanette!
