Take Comfort …

I hate when I get anxious, fearful, or nervous…. about my life or just life in general.  I hate admitting that I get anxious, but it’s the truth.  Anxiety is best described as “a fear or nervousness about what might happen”  http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/anxiety  or being afraid or nervous especially about what may happen. This is an area I struggle with – constantly.  And… I believe I am not alone in this struggle.

We get anxious over the state of the world, our own lives, our children and grandchildren, money, our jobs…    I mean, we can’t switch it on and off like a light switch, but we sure wish it was that easy, don’t we?   It’s rarely that simple.  Remember, like so many things – we are probably doing the best we can in that moment… for that day.

So, I find that I need God’s Word to overcome and to help with my state of “being anxious.”  And, I am thinking I’m probably not alone.  Read the scripture passages below, and feel free to print these out and paste to your work station, your refrigerator, or your bathroom mirror.  I find it helpful to recite and pray these scriptures.  Here are a few of my favorite Bible scriptures to reduce my anxiety:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”  (Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV)

Goodness, I don’t know about you, but I certainly need the Lord to direct my path, every moment of ever day!  I can’t rely on my own thoughts and heart to get through!  I need to remind myself that I can take comfort in the Lord.

Flower.1

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  (Philippians 4: 6-7 – NIV)

I need the reminder that God “has got this”!  Time and time again!  Keep pressing into the Lord and remember He is there for us, guarding our hearts and minds.

PVB.3

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  (Matthew 11:28-30 – NIV)

Anxiousness truly makes me weary and burdened.  When I feel anxious, I want to just quit the day, curl up under the sheets, and not come out again… at least not for a while.  But, we can find rest in Him.  I must recite this one over and over again to get my “rest”.

“Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”  (Psalm 55:22 – NIV)

I love the Psalms!  I find so much comfort all throughout the book of Psalms!  Right here is my reminder we can cast all our worries, anxieties, and cares on the Lord, and He will sustain us.  We don’t have to fight alone…. He wants us to let Him sustain us!

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you; not as the world gives do I give to you.  Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.  (John 14:27 – NASB)

I hope these Bible verses will give you some comfort… as they do me.

Until next time.
