What in the World Would Prompt a Middle-Aged Woman to Write a Blog?

Hi –

Before we get started, I just want to say it is not the hormones that got me started writing this blog.  I know, I know… we hit a certain age and everyone blames the hormones or lack of.  Trust me, we will talk about hormones in an entirely different post, but for right now – how about we spend a little time getting to know one another!  (Hey – why don’t you grab a cup of coffee before you sit down.)

I grew up in “small town” New Jersey.  I was raised strict Catholic by a close-knit Italian-American family, survived Catholic school, served four years in the Navy and landed in Jacksonville Beach, Florida where I have been ever since.  I have a husband, Michial, and two grown daughters who are now delightful young adults – they are both coming into their own, pretty, smart, fun personalities and entertaining (to put it mildly).

I am here to tell you God is good!  I am a Christian, and I love the Lord!  Actually, I don’t know how I would have survived life, or even want to at this point, without the Lord in my life.

What am I really like?  My oldest daughter, Christine, said some of my finer qualities are: I am kind-hearted; very thoughtful; generous – even when I don’t have it; and the life of the party.  (No, I didn’t pay her to say that, but I might have bribed her with dinner out in the near future!)

The bad news?  Christine and my youngest, Caitlin, say I am “neurotic” (quite true).  I have to hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, and constantly rush people.  When I want to do something or be somewhere, it is right-now-this-very-second (that’s the “Jersey girl” in me!)  J  J

I can be “bossy”.  I order everyone around – and my girls say when we are in a group, it can be quite embarrassing.  (Well, I’m gonna’ pin that one on my “personality”, and say I was born that way!)

What do I love?  I absolutely love time with my family, my two girls and my close friends.

And I love my two “rascals” (dogs) Princess “Bella” – a feisty Chihuahua who always gets her own way!  And “Toby”, a fat Dachshund hot dog who gets along with everyone and we always say “Toby is a lover, not a fighter!”

I love to eat chocolate – lots of it, and Edy’s Chocolate Chip or Publix’s Moose Tracks!  And being an Italian, I love Italian food!  Don’t think for a minute there is any special order to the food preferences; it really depends on the day and the mood I am in.

I like sitting outside, floating in a “floatie” in a pool and walking the beach.

I like to go out to lunch and dinner at my favorite spots (I tuck my napkin into the top of my shirt, I call it my “bib”).

I like  reading, renting movies and going to the movies!

And I am so, so easily entertained.  I love to laugh, laugh, laugh!

So, now the BIG question… why write a blog?  I mean there are thousands out there, right?  Well, I’m well into my 50’s and have seen a lot of things.  I have had good and bad times, and now I am entering into another season of my life.  I am quite excited!  I think I am actually getting comfortable in my own skin.  I am secure in who I have become – a middle-aged, sincere woman, with lots of flaws and hang ups.

I am a basket-case, and I have realized there is absolutely positively nothing wrong with it!  While I may not always have everything together, I am honest and try to be forthright most of the time.  I hope that inviting you to share my adventures and misadventures, will put a smile on your face and some laughter in your heart.

I like people, and I like to entertain people, but more importantly, I like to help people.  This is the main reason I am writing this blog.  Hey – my favorite pastime is time with my family and friends!

I will be sharing about all kinds of things, mostly women’s issues, and fun stuff:

  • Inspirational
  • Funny, humor
  • Health & Wellness
  • Overweight women
  • Advice
  • Spiritual
  • Pets and their special place in our lives
  • Grief and Loss
  • Emotional issues
  • Midlife issues
  • Family and relationships
  • Loss of jobs
  • Special guest bloggers
  • Interviews with some special women who have overcome obstacles in their lives and survived it!

But this is certainly NOT a one way street.  And I want your comments, opinions, ideas and thoughts, too.  I want to hear from you, my readers, AKA my special friends, about what your needs, challenges and interests are as we travel this journey together.  And, hopefully over a few blogs and several hundred cups of shared coffee, we will become good friends.

Come on – join me.  Let’s enjoy this time together, and hopeful we can share some smiles, maybe an occasional tear now and again, but most of all we can enjoy a laugh and celebrate this thing called life.  After all, it is way too short and by the time we become comfortable in our own skin, we need to enjoy where we have been and celebrate where we are today.

Some said, “Life isn’t a destination, it is a journey.”

I say, “Life Ain’t Easy Street… it is for sharing with good friends!

So grab a cup of coffee, sit down in your favorite comfy chair, and let’s enjoy the ride.  Who knows?  Maybe we can find a few adventures to enjoy… one girlfriend to another.

NOTE:  I want to hear from you.  If you have a story to share, or you are looking for some honest advice from the sister-you-always-wished-you-had
