You Are Beautiful

, / 26

You are …. Beautiful. I wish you believed it!!! Why don’t you? Has someone made you feel small? I know you, like me, have many prior experiences from your home, school, or work that maybe have squashed your self-esteem. Maybe you have a disability, injury or illness that has changed your outward appearance (and inward thoughts of yourself). Maybe your view of yourself is because of your culture, background, religion, or the way you were raised.

I mean, MOST of us don’t look like this….

But, big or small, whatever color or background, or shape or age you are…. God made you – in His image – and you are beautiful!

I wish you would believe it though. NOW is the time for you to be who you were meant to be.

God never creates anything bad. He doesn’t make mistakes. He knew you before you were born, and he has plans for YOU!

“For thou didst form my inward parts: Thou didst cover me in my mother’s womb.” (Psalm 139:13 – ASV)

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; …” (Jeremiah 1:5 – NIV)

God formed us and wonderfully made us. See, God doesn’t make mistakes…. for sure.

I don’t know how old you are, or what “place” you are currently at in your life. Maybe you are a struggling stay at home mother with three children under the ages of four; maybe a middle aged woman who is going through the empty nest syndrome; maybe a woman in her 30’s who is truly trapped in a bad marriage….. Maybe you are lonely and don’t have much family or many friends.

But please look in the mirror, see what I see … and smile. Maybe you have some “wrinkles” you didn’t have 20 years ago; maybe you are a little chubby; maybe you have “scars” or maybe even scars we can’t outwardly see. God sees it all. Don’t look at the scars from disappointments, struggles, sadness, mourning, broken relationships and crisis. It’s a fresh moment, and it’s a new day. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. See yourself as God sees you!

This moment, and this day, will not come again. See a fresh new day and a new beginning. Rise up! … and truly know that you were created in God’s image. It is almost magical when you realize that you – yes, YOU – were wonderfully made.

Forget who has belittled you, mocked you, made you feel small. They have their own problems they are dealing with.

Feel the blessings that were showered on you. Capture them, embrace them. If you can get up out of bed and move your legs…. that’s a miracle. If the sun has risen another day and you witness it … that’s another beautiful thing. If you have a roof over your head and food in the refrigerator… you’re blessed! Make yourself smile – I KNOW it sounds silly, but it works! Smile, and you’ll begin to feel a little better.

If you believe that you ARE beautiful – and not a mistake – you can succeed at almost anything, one small step at a time. Walk in God’s love, and embrace the internal strength He gave you.

Until next time, my beautiful friend.

  • It’s hard to see how beautiful we are. I struggled a long time with feeling inadequate physically, emotionally and spiritually. I realized just the other day that while, I think my body could look better (toner if I exercised) I have not criticized my body in quite some time. I thank God for changing my heart toward myself.

Clare, thank you for the encouraging reminders! I remember talking to my grandmother while she was getting ready in the bathroom. She was talking about how awful she looked and I said, “I think you look beautiful.” She laughing replied, “That’s what your grandfather says.” I try to remember that our view of ourselves is not always accurate.

  • What a beautiful reminder that we are all beautiful! The enemy constantly tries to tear us down and make us doubt ourselves, our worth, and as women, he has a powerful weapon in making us insecure in our appearance~but he is a liar and this post is a wonderful reminder how beautiful and special we are in God’s eyes!

  • Thank you for sharing. We all need a reminder every now and then and today was one of those days. I appreciate your comments.

  • “Forget who has belittled you, mocked you, made you feel small. They have their own problems they are dealing with.” <- If no one takes anything away but this, you've given them an incredible truth. People who are happy and confident, who do not have any problems in their personal lives, do NOT need to tear others down. Know that anyone who says or does something hurtful to you – they are REacting to something in their own life and you are getting the brunt of it.

    • Clare says:

Yes, none of us need to tear each other down… goodness we get enough of that daily from everyone around us! Thanks for your thoughts and comments, Leanne! I appreciate it!

This post really speaks to my heart. It’s so hard to feel beautiful when you don’t look like society’s definition of beauty. So many people don’t recognize the gem that they are which is such a shame. Thanks for this encouraging post.

    • Clare says:

I am so glad this has spoken to your heart, Yanique! Yes, society’s definition is way different than God’s definition of beauty! I am delighted that you were encouraged!

  • This is a great message and so true. It’s often really hard to believe, isn’t it, that we’re beautiful. But as we’re tempted to belittle ourselves for chubby thighs or scars or cellulite, we need to remember that we ARE beautiful and precious, especially in His sight. <3
